The Four Stops

Riverboat Discovery

Your day begins at Riverboat Discovery, an authentic sternwheeler cruise on the Chena and Tanana Rivers operated by the Binkley family — one of Fairbanks’ most iconic experiences. The narrated cruise includes a live bush pilot demonstration, a stop at Trail Breaker Kennel (home of four-time Iditarod champion Susan Butcher’s sled dogs), and a guided visit to Chena Village, a living replica of a traditional Athabascan Native Alaskan village where Alaska Native guides share the traditions and history of Interior Alaska’s original people. There will be time to explore Steamboat landing and get lunch after the tour.

Gold Dredge 8

Gold Dredge 8 is a National Historic Landmark located approximately 10 miles north of downtown Fairbanks on the Old Steese Highway. The dredge operated in Goldstream Valley from 1928 to 1959 and today functions as a living mining museum. A narrow-gauge railroad brings guests through the gold fields with narration about how the industrial-scale operation worked at its peak. The gold panning experience is guaranteed — every guest finds gold and keeps what they pan — and the gift shop allows you to have it weighed, valued, or turned into a keepsake.

Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park is a free, self-guided outdoor heritage park operated by the City of Fairbanks on approximately 44 acres along the Chena River. The park preserves original Gold Rush-era buildings and cultural exhibits alongside museums, shops, and restaurants, making it both a historical site and an active community destination. Guests have free time here to explore at their own pace or hear stories  from our local guides — it’s one of the most genuinely local stops on the tour.

Alaska Salmon Bake Dinner

Pioneer Park is home to the Alaska Salmon Bake, a classic Fairbanks dining experience that has been operating for over 40 years. Featuring wild-caught Alaska salmon, cod, and prime rib cooked over an open fire, it’s one of the most authentic meals you can have in Interior Alaska. The Salmon Bake is available for purchase during your free time at Pioneer Park and is highly recommended — most guests make a night of it before the return drive to your hotel.
