Denali Gateway Adventure: Day Trip from Fairbanks to Denali
The Denali Rafting & Zipline Adventure is a 13-hour guided day trip from Fairbanks, Alaska to Denali National Park and Preserve. Alaska Wild Lights provides round-trip transportation from your Fairbanks hotel, approximately two hours south via the Parks Highway through Interior Alaska’s boreal forest. The day includes whitewater rafting on the Nenana River and the Denali Park Zipline — with tickets, guides, and all equipment included in the tour price. Lunch is not included but snacks and water are provided, and there is time built into the day for a meal stop. At the end of the day, guests return to Fairbanks with Alaska Wild Lights or may choose to stay in Denali and arrange their own transportation from there. Most Fairbanks visitors focus on the city’s Gold Rush history, hot springs, and northern lights. This tour offers something different: a full day in one of the most dramatic landscapes on earth, with two of Denali’s best outdoor experiences handled end to end.
You don’t need a rental car, a shuttle reservation, or separate bookings with multiple operators. Everything is arranged before you leave Fairbanks.
Fairbanks to Denali. Rafting, zipline, and back — everything handled.
What’s Included
Whitewater Rafting on the Nenana River
The Nenana River runs alongside the Parks Highway at the Denali park entrance, making it one of the most scenic and accessible whitewater rafting destinations in Alaska. The river offers Class III-IV rapids with stretches of calmer water between them. Dry suits, helmets, life jackets, and all safety equipment are included — the outfitter handles the full gear setup before you hit the water. The river is glacially fed and cold year-round, which the dry suits fully account for.
Denali Park Zipline
The Denali Park Zipline is the only accredited zipline in the Denali area, operated just outside the national park entrance. The course includes seven ziplines and six suspension bridges above the boreal forest and tundra, with views of the Alaska Range from elevated platforms. The built-in braking system is hands-free, making it accessible to first-timers. Admission, a guide, and all equipment are included in the tour price.
Two of Denali’s best outdoor experiences in a single guided day from Fairbanks.
How the Day Works
Your day begins with hotel pickup from your Fairbanks accommodation. Alaska Wild Lights provides round-trip transportation in a comfortable vehicle, with your guide sharing context about the Parks Highway, Interior Alaska, and the history of Denali National Park during the approximately two-hour drive south.
Once in the Denali area, the day follows a set sequence: whitewater rafting on the Nenana River, followed by a break for lunch (snacks and water are provided; there is time to purchase a meal if you prefer), then the Denali Park Zipline. Your guide coordinates all timing and logistics between stops.
Return transportation to Fairbanks departs after the zipline, arriving back approximately 13 hours after your morning pickup. Guests who prefer to stay in Denali at the end of the day may do so — just let Alaska Wild Lights know in advance, as transportation back to Fairbanks will not be available once the group departs.
