Itinerary

Riverboat Discovery (8:45am–11:45am)

Embark on a 3-hour tour that takes you through the rich history of Fairbanks. Your adventure begins aboard an authentic steamboat, where you’ll learn the stories of early prospectors who journeyed to Alaska in search of fortune. Next, witness a live bush pilot demonstration and enjoy scenic views of historic landmarks along the Chena River. Your journey will take you past Trail Breaker Kennel, home to sled dogs, to learn about the legacy of Susan Butcher, the four-time Iditarod champion. Along the way, you’ll encounter reindeer and see how salmon is prepared for the sled dogs. After docking at Chena Village, disembark to experience the traditional lifestyle of early Athabascan people. Finally, re-board the steamboat for a relaxing return trip to Steamboat Landing, where you will be able to purchase unique Alaskan gifts available before and after your tour.

Lunch (11:45am–1:00pm) – Discovery Dining and Exploration of Steamboat Landing

Chatanika Gold Dredge (1:45pm–3:45pm)

Embark on a 2-hour tour that takes you on an unforgettable journey through Alaska’s rich mining history. Your adventure begins aboard a replica of the Tanana Valley Railroad, where you’ll learn about the early prospectors who struck it rich during the Fairbanks Gold Rush. Next, you’ll enjoy a live demonstration on the art of panning for gold. Then, it’s your turn to try your hand at panning! Once you’ve recovered your fortune, explore the mining museum, take a close-up look at Dredge 8, and browse the gift shop for unique souvenirs. Afterward, you’ll return to the Tanana Valley Railroad for a scenic ride back to the station.

Pioneer Park (3:45pm–5:15pm)

Pioneer Park is a 44-acre Historical Theme Park located in the heart of Fairbanks, Alaska, between Airport Way and the Chena River bike path. There is no admission fee to enter Pioneer Park.
